  • Fire And Nice

    Tales from the Brat Farm

Today I really felt like we have become Alabamians.  The Beast bought a fire pit and started burning some boxes and other stuff that always take up so much space in our garbage can.  Our garbage service only provides one large bin and they pick it up every week.  This costs us $40 per quarter.  Anything you want to throw away, you can as long as it goes into the can.  We have to wheel it down to the end of the driveway on Tuesday nights for pickup early Wednesday morning.  Most of our neighbors have a fire barrel or a fire pit they have been using all along.  We are misplaced Yankees, however, so we have to learn about these things by example.

The Beast went a little crazy once he had the fire pit out back.  He was running all over the house and garage looking for stray boxes or anything else he didn't need that was burnable.

The new monitor for my computer arrived today and I must say, I was very surprised.  It's a 22 inch monitor and the picture on it is amazing.  It's like watching our HD TV.  It is so nice, I had to thank the Beast for choosing it for me.  He doesn't usually buy me something that's nicer than what he has and this one is definitely nicer.  Larger, too.  It was a nice surprise.

No Chewlee today because the Princess was off work.  The Beast reserved rooms for us at the motel we stayed at the last time there was a family gathering at AM's.  That one was at the cottage, however.  This gathering will be at the new house.  Since the Princess will be arriving late, he will just pay for her room and have the keys for her.  I'm still debating on whether or not we will take Chewlee along with us.  I really don't think it's a good idea and I am hoping Johnnycakes is going and that he can pick her up early from me so I can ride with the Beast and Baron.

Cinderella called today for the address since she knows AM very well and bought a birthday card for her.  I think AM will be tickled and surprised.  It's a sweet thing for her to do.  She's like me; she can hardly believe the woman is 90 years old.  If you knew her, you would find it hard to believe, too.  I'll admit, however, that since she has gotten Parkinson's, it's aged her.  Her case is mild right now and the medication really helps.  They've made such strides in treating it the past few years.  She says she just can't do some of the things she is used to doing.  She mostly means climbing a ladder or chair to reach things because of her balance being off and she will, at times, shake badly enough that she can hardly feed herself.  That's pretty much been reduced by some new medication she's on now.  I gather it's experimental but it seems to work for her.

I have to get down and dirty tomorrow about getting this house ready for us to leave.  Yes,  I am one of *those*.  I have to leave my house nice and neat if I go away for a day or two.  Weird but it's nice to come back to.

Love you all and I hope you are having some good weather for a change.  Ours hasn't been too bad and I really, really hope it keeps up this way.  Our high temperatures are slowing lowering to bearable.  Be good and have a little fun.  It's hump day and almost the Labor Day Weekend.
