  • The New Year With Chewlee

    TALES FROM THE BRAT FARM

Chewlee spent New Year's with me because the Princess and Johnnycakes were having a few people over to celebrate.  Shortly before midnight, Johnnycakes came over to pick up the bottle of Malibu Rum from me.  It turned out it was NOT Malibu Rum but was filled with moonshine.    I knew that the minute I smelled it.  I even took about half a shot of it to see what kind of quality it was.  It was ROUGH, let me tell you.  I laughed when I discovered that and knew that Johnnycakes would be looking for it.  I laughed when she called me and told her to have him run by and pick it up.  I was NOT going to drink it.

Chewlee came over earlier than expected mainly because she had been told she was going to have a sleepover.  She nagged her mother for about five hours even though the Princess said it had to be dark before she came.  As soon as it started getting dark, she was all packed up and the Princess finally got tired of her nagging and brought her over.

She DID do a ballet for me when her mother ran by with warmer pajamas than Chewlee had packed for herself.  I did, however, let her put on the tutu she had packed because it was just too cute.  She only did two performances because she suddenly wanted to draw more pictures for Birdie.  The envelope is sitting on top of my DVD bookcase.

The Princess told Chewlee that she had to go to bed when I told her it was time.  If she gave me any trouble, she wouldn't have any more sleepovers.  She made Chewlee and I both promise....her to go to bed when it was time, me to tell her if she gave me a problem.  She was good about going to bed but let me know she thought it was *too early*.  I put her to bed around 8:30pm because I knew she was wound up and would need time relaxing before she would sleep.

I ended up going to bed around 11:30pm.  I had already celebrate New Year's with Bratfink (she is Eastern Time; I am Central) and I was really tired.  Bratfink said our goodnights and love you, etc. then we both signed off the internet and went to bed.

I started out going to the guest room, since I had promised Chewlee that I would sleep with her.  She had done a fantastic job of kicking the comforter under the bedspread and down at the bottom of the bed.  It took me about 15 minutes to straighten that out trying not to wake her.  As soon as I straightened that out, she woke up, of course.  She patted my shoulder then threw her arm around my neck.  I had showered shortly before crawling in to bed with her and she could feel my head was wet.  She sleepily said, *Oh you are hot Grandma.  I can feel your sweat.*  She had to mess my hair when I told her I had washed my hair and the little stinker laughed.  I was just about asleep when the need for the bathroom arose....a desperate need to hit the toilet in my bowels.  I got up, turned on her dream light so she wouldn't get scared if she found me gone and ran to the bathroom.  I heard her voice calling me and I told her where I was so she quieted down.

When I was done, I was afraid I would have another bathroom emergency so I went and laid down on my recliner.  It wasn't more than 10 minutes when she walked in clutching her blankey and her stuffed cat.  She said, *I got lonely.* and then crawled into the recliner with me.  She got herself  settled in and I was forced to lay on my side while she sprawled in the recliner and on me.  She finally ended up sleeping on me...and on top of the blanket I had spread over me and her.  I swear, for a kid that only weighs 42 lbs, she felt like she weighed 100 lbs.  I did finally fall asleep and woke up with one arm numb from the way we both ended up sleeping.

Chewlee woke up, grabbed her blanket and went to sit in my computer chair.  She woke me up just because of the weight being gone and, when she saw I was awake, she said, *It's morning, Grandma.  Can I watch cartoons?*  I turned cartoons on for her and said, *I'm going to just lay here and take a little nap.*  The Beast was up so I knew he would get her milk or make her some cereal when she asked.  I don't know what time the Princess got here to pick her up but one of her bags of *supplies* is still here.  I think I have her charger and head phones for her Leap Pad.  She uses the head phones on her portable DVD player, too.  Especially when they travel any distance.  I think she starts school tomorrow so I believe we will see her then.

The Princess is supposed to give us a detailed schedule so we know what days we get Chewlee.  We will be keeping her overnight once a week due to the Princess's schedule.  She had one evening class that would have her picking Chewlee up too late at night.  So the Beast committed to making sure she gets to school the next day.  She's good about going to sleep on school nights because she usually is very tired.  The Beast THINKS the Princess told him it was on Mondays that she would be here overnight.  We are going to have to make sure we have clothes here for her to wear and a jacket.  I do have a set of her pajamas here and the sweater and jeans she was wearing yesterday.  I'll have to remind the Princess about those things.  I sent home with her all the clothes I had that I was afraid Chewlee was going to outgrow but she has new things that she wears now, especially pants.

Anyway, we are probably in the last year of the Princess's college.  She's taking more classes because she found out she could go for her Master's with just a few more classes.  Since she is majoring in Math (as a teacher) that gives her more options as to where she will teach.  She's been doing the substitute teacher thing now for over a year so the schools are becoming familiar with her and vice versa.  Plus she makes a little extra cash once a month (which is how substitute teachers are paid).

We did have some snow on the ground for a day and a night but the days have been in the 40's and 50's since.  Even now, it's late but our temperature outside is 44.  That's rain temperature, not snow.  It makes Baron happy.  He is SUCH a wimp!   But,hell, I am, too.

Love you all.  Hope you've recovered from any NYE celebrating.

  • We Survived!

    TALES FROM THE BRAT FARM

                Happy New Year......2013!

Can you believe it?  No bad thing happened on Dec. 21st!  We survived whatever it was the Mayans thought would happen.  I am so relieved that we actually have a new year to live through.  Love you all.
