  • Chewlee Spends The Night

    TALES FROM THE BRAT FARM
Chewlee wasn't expecting to spend the night with me and the Beast but the Princess called to ask me if I could keep her.  When I asked why, she told me that Johnnycakes mother had been taken off the machines and moved into a *family* room so the family is sitting a kind of shiva tonight.   I know that shiva is usually something that is done AFTER the fact but I think everyone that has lost a loved one understands what I mean.  Our prayers are with the family tonight.

Sheepie and Teach got here late this afternoon and Chewlee was so excited.  She even gave Teach a hug which was a new thing for her.  I had to laugh because she told him he was pretty but I knew what she really meant was that she could see his heart and that is *pretty* to her.  He's a good person.  Sheepie was sitting in a lotus position so, of course, Chewlee had to sit that way too and call attention to the fact.  It was *imitating day* for her as long as Sheepie was around.  She didn't want her to leave, of course, but Sheepie promised she would be back to see her on Wednesday.

It was funny to me that Teach knew all the cartoon shows that were on but he babysits his nephew I think he said and ends up (like me) knowing them all.    What's embarrassing is that I sometimes find myself leaving the cartoon Chewlee was watching when she left on so that I can see the ending.  **Blush**  Hey!  Some of those are very entertaining and they are certainly *clean*.

I used to love comedians but I find it difficult to listen to most of them nowadays.  The filthy language, most of which is just unnecessary, turns me off.  I will turn on a new comedian to see what's what but, if he throws out filthy language like every other word, I turn him off.  Surprisingly, I have found a couple new comedians lately that use almost no bad language at all.  Proving once and for all that it's not necessary to be funny.  I adore Ron White, who uses very little bad language although a lot of his comedy is what some people would call risque or downright racy.  My all time favorite is Jeff Foxworthy.  The whole Blue Collar Tour group is definitely high on my list of favorites even though Larry took me some time to warm up to and appreciate his comedy.

You would be surprised to see my list of cartoon favorites, I think and I am not going to list them for you, tyvm.  It's bad enough I could supply a list of them at my age.    They are sure different from the cartoons I watched when I was a kid.  Most of those didn't last for long, remember?  We would have loved to have a cartoon (that wasn't a Disney film) that lasted for 20-30 minutes and we could watch on our black-and-white TV's.  Chewlee can't even imagine that.  It's like I was discussing living in a foreign country or talking to her in a foreign language.

I actually have a collection of old cartoons that the Princess bought for me a few years back.  She figured I could watch them with Chewlee (when she was a baby) and it wouldn't be hard on me because *they are the cartoons from when you were a kid!* is what she said.  Hell, there are some I never saw that are downright idiotic from pre-Disney days.  But watching the cartoon shows these days makes me really appreciate how much things have progressed in just MY lifetime.  Amazing!

It was hotter than hell today and we spent almost no time outside for any reason.  Baron zoomed out for his *business* and zoomed back in as quickly as he went out.  The only one that was different was the cat.  When she wanted out, she went and stayed out for hours.  I think she has a cool, favorite place she goes (probably in the midst of my garden...LOL).  She came in for about an hour this evening and scooted out the front door when the Beast went outside.   She hasn't spent the night with us yet since her accidentally being locked in the closet.  I told the Beast that it was his fault.  I keep my clothes in the closet here in my computer room so I never use that closet these days.  He is in and out of it and often leaves the door open until he goes to bed....sometimes.  She might actually have been used to it being open all the time and that's why it scared her to find it closed.

Well, time to get this posted.  Chewlee needs to take a bath before Kai Lan comes on (she's in now) but I have to wash her hair for me even though she insists she can do it.  She doesn't rinse it well enough so that's really what I am doing more than anything.  In this hot weather, I want to make sure her scalp is well scrubbed to get all the sweat off or she'll get cradle cap and that's a pain to get rid of.

Love you all.  Stay cool.  Stay hydrated.  Be careful driving.  Watch out for the other guy.  Remember, the life you save may just be your own.
