I Should Have Known
TALES FROM THE BRAT FARMI went out in the garage while the Beast was installing the new hot water heater and Lo! and Behold! I really should have known. The new hot water heater is made out of stainless steel!!! Honest-to-god, the man just cannot get over his addiction to such items. If it's shiny, it must be HIS! So it is stainless steel both inside and out. But....get this! He is still going to box it in with plywood like the old one and wrap it well in more insulation even though he says it's got the most incredible insulation in it that he's ever seen. Go figure!
I'm glad I got my post up when I did last night. Shortly after midnight, we got the most awful winds whipping around outside. They were gusting to 70 mph and we ended up in a blackout. That lasted for over 8 hours but the house stayed cool since it IS well-constructed and insulated and so did the fridge and freezer. Then the storms rolled in after we lost our electricity. I didn't care. I went to bed....LOL We got more of the same today but not the winds, thankfully. The Beast forgot to bring in the cushions from the deck so those are now in the process of drying off. I don't know if they will make it because more rain is predicted for us for tomorrow. But, if they are partially dried, at least we can bring them indoors and finish the process on a few well-placed towels.
The Princess called us today when she stopped at KFC to pick up something for her and Chewlee to eat. The Beast gave her our order and we all ate KFC together when she brought Chewlee over. I love KFC, don't you? I just wish they put more gravy on the individual servings of the mashed potatoes. It's like you get a scoop of potatoes and a tablespoon of gravy. It just doesn't equate.
Have you ever known of a kid that doesn't like ketchup? Meet Chewlee. She absolutely does not like it in any way, shape or form. I thought she might like some with her french fried potatoes but she made the most awful face and the Princess laughed. She hadn't realized I didn't know (yet) that she didn't like it. But, since Chewlee has never liked to eat a hot dog on a bun, it just never came up.
Chewlee found my stash of presents that I have bought for my granddaughters and she is making me nuts because there are some she wants for herself. I keep telling her she isn't big enough yet but she tries to tell me that she is bigger now so she should be able to have this or that one. It makes me laugh because there is NO WAY she can fit any of the items but I could see her trying. I'll only say this much....the items are jewelry. She is definitely a female.
She has decided she wants two more Barbie movies.....The Three Musketeers one and The Mermaid's Tale. I really, really hate how the DVDs are just filled with *commercials* for other items. Right now I am getting a litany of how she is tall and her arms are long enough to reach as she demonstrates how she can reach items on the shelves in here. All this to convince me that she should be able to have at least ONE of the items she admires. I obviously have to find a new hiding place now. **Sigh**
Chewlee kind of knows about recycling but hasn't quite *gotten* it. She was looking at where the Beast has piled some of the compost and he told her that it was going to go into the garden for next year. She asked what was in it and he told her some of the things that were all mixed in together and had broken down into the compost. So, today, when I peeled her orange and she went to throw the peels in the garbage, she told him she wanted to throw it in his garden. She got very upset when he told her no, they didn't go in the garden. She said to me, *But he TOLD me he had peels in it!*. I had to ask him what she meant. He figured it out right away and we both just smiled and laughed because that is SO like her to only understand part of what you tell her. You forget she's only 4.
Chewlee goes to her new school open house on Monday and it will be her introduction to who her teacher will be and some of her new classmates, too, the Princess hopes. She may have a difficult time adjusting to a more structured environment but she'll adjust, I'm sure. I just hope it's quickly.
I made up some tuna salad for our lunch tomorrow. I like it when it can sit for a while because the flavors blend nicely then. That way, too, the Beast can just help himself when he gets hungry. Since he's going to be busy tomorrow finishing up his *project* and then cleaning up his mess in the garage, I would rather not have to wait for him. Let him eat when he's ready and I will do the same.
No Chewlee tomorrow so it will be another chore day for me. I have a couple more loads of clothes I can get done. Right now, Chewlee is laying on her tee-tee with my blanket over her and her bear. She got pillows off *her* bed and just told me she was going to close her eyes, okay?
I think she must be a little bit tired. She turned off the overhead lights so the only light on in here is on my desk and the light from the TV. I just hope she's not sound asleep when the Princess comes to pick her up. She weighs a bit too much to carry for any length of time but maybe that's just me. She's telling me that we need to go camping and bring all this stuff with us and *I* can sleep with her when it gets dark out. She's never been camping yet but has learned a little about it from some of her programs. Now she thinks she knows all about it. Too damn funny.
Every time we watch this particular Barbie movie which is about *The Magic of Pegasus*, she gets a sad voice and tells me she wants to ice skate like Barbie does but she doesn't have ice skates. Then she will ask me if I will get her ice skates because she said her mother told her NO. I doubt she has even asked her but I tell her that she will get them *when she gets older*. That doesn't make her real happy but she tries negotiating with me that *getting older* means when she gets to be 5 or maybe for Xmas? Always thinking, this one.
Love you all and it's time for me to get this posted before the nightly storms hit us. Be good. Be careful. Stay cool.
