  • The Beast And Amazon Dot Com

    TALES FROM THE BRAT FARM

It was a nice day around here today.  I slept well until almost 10 am.    I know!  But my foot seems to get a lot better with good sleep and most of it was good.  When I got up, I was annoyed that the Beast hadn't made fresh coffee but there was enough left in the pot from last night for a cup for me.  I just heated it up in the microwave and went to my room.

I did my usual going through my email, reading the news online (including the boring local news...LOL) and then knew I needed a fresh cup of coffee.  I hadn't heard the Beast get up from his computer so I took a deep breath and headed for the coffee maker.  I started it going and the Beast came out from his room and actually said this to me:  *Did I hear the sound of you making coffee? *  He then laughed and said, *Ah hah!  I outwaited you!*  I shot him a dirty look since he had been up for HOURS.  I saw his spot was empty around 7am when I got up to go to the bathroom.  I thought about getting up but I was so comfy for a change, I said hell no and went back to bed.

After the coffee was made and poured, the Beast and I exchanged a few words about what our day was going to be like and then went back to our computers.  He was doing some research on camera lenses so I wasn't surprised when he came into my computer room and asked to use my computer for a minute to check something out.  After he showed me what he was checking, even *I* was shocked.  On a search for this particular lens, he showed me the ad by Amazon dot com and the price.  When we clicked on it, it came up but while we watched the price changed and went UP $11.  He told me he wanted to see if it was just the fact that he has bought other camera equipment and Amazon might have his computer *bugged* so that it adds money to it when he shows an interest in something.  This is not the first time that has happened to him.  I reminded him that camera equipment prices have always been volatile and some places made you call to get the *price of the hour* as I called it.  What's funnier is it went up another dollar and we were talking.  Later on, the Beast walked into my room and said to me, *Check the price on that lens for me.  When it hits $500, I want to buy it!*  He was joking, of course, but it has made Amazon suspect in his mind.  And, to tell the truth, mine, too.

No Chewlee today although that almost wasn't true.  The two girls that usually work the *to go* orders (and window) had both called in and weren't going to be able to work.  Friday is a busy day for the restaurant in take outs so they were really worried.  They tried calling another girl that normally worked there but had to leave a message.  If they couldn't get a hold of her or if she couldn't come in, then the Princess was going to have to stay.  She called me to let me know.  I was halfway prepared for that because I had a dream that the Princess dropped her off and I even said something like...but it's Friday....it's not my day!  But, they ended up getting a hold of the girl and she was happy to come in and work.

The Beast decided to pick up something for us to eat while he was out testing this new set up for his camera and one of his lenses.  I really don't know all the details.  I'm just not that interested.  But he brought home some fried shrimp dinners and it was wonderful.  I didn't realize I had a taste for them or that I was as hungry as I was.  I made a real pig out of myself.  It was 10 fried shrimp of a decent size, some cole slaw, and french fries.  It really hit the spot.  I stopped folding clothes immediately and ate slowly and carefully until I was full.  I ate all the shrimp, a few of the fries and most of the cole slaw.  Captain D's has some good cole slaw and I enjoy it when we eat there.  Not many places have good cole slaw.

Time to get this posted and finish folding all the Beast's underwear and socks.  I will need to do more wash tomorrow and I want to change the linens on my bed....it will just be a day earlier than I usually do it but who's keeping track?  Chewlee will be here and it's a long day for us together.  I will let her help me and she will be thrilled.  She loves to *do housework*.  I can give her the dustmop or broom and she can keep herself busy all damn day.

Love you all.  I wish you a wonderful Saturday.  Try not to work too hard (I know about weekends when you work outside the home).  It all makes me glad I am retired now and just stuck with the housework part of a woman's world.  But, I'll admit the Beast is starting to be extremely helpful.  When I am sick, he finds out how much fun it is....NOT!

Be good but try to have some fun anyway.

  • Chemo #5 For The Beast And Chewlee Decides I Need A New Hairdo

    TALES FROM THE BRAT FARM

The Beast got up bright and early this morning.  I know because he woke me up with all the noise he was making.  He cracks me up because he had taken a shower last night but had to take another one when he got up.  All because the charge nurse gets to hold his dick while administering the chemo and he's afraid some odor is going to waft her way???  It just makes me laugh.

He left about 7:30am and was home by 8:30am.  Then it's a matter of not peeing anything out until around 10am.  I had no idea that he had to call and report how long he managed but he's gotten very good at keeping himself from emptying his bladder for the full two hours.  He's also good about sitting down for that and then for the next 2-3 hours afterward to make sure all the stuff has gotten out of his system.  He took over the cleaning up of the toilet area but is using a hell of a lot of bleach.  I guess I should be glad since I would probably come down with the germ used....that's MY kind of luck.    He said he's also concerned about Chewlee and I have to agree there.

He came in like a wounded lion and swears he has learned to hate that nurse.  She hasn't gotten gentler at all.  He says he's really tired of peeing blood and clots and he knows it's because the catheter she inserts she isn't gentle with.  I reminded him that he forgot to take his rifle along with him and then just laughed.  He gave me *that* look.

When the Princess dropped off Chewlee, Chewlee told me she had been really, really, REALLY good so she could come and stay with me today.  I gave her a big hug and kiss and told her I thought that was wonderful!  She just got a big grin on her face as she licked her popsicle.  When she finished that, she told me she was really hungry and I guess she was.  Today's menu was chicken noodle soup, salami, cheese (only two small slices of a cheddar block on crackers), and then some purple grapes.  I'm monitoring how many grapes she gets so we won't have a repeat of the other day.  She also drank two glasses of chocolate milk.  She told me she had already had just plain milk for lunch...two whole glasses!  I barely make it chocolate-flavored so she doesn't get the runs.  When the Beast buys chocolate milk, I always use regular milk and cut it down to about 50/50.  I still think that's a bit too chocolatey but...it still works for her.

After she was thoroughly fed and happy, she decided I needed my hair brushed.  She set to it with a vengeance.  She brushed it this way and then that, then did something else to it and still wasn't happy with it.  She finally showed me the result by bringing over a mirror and I was surprised because it really looked like she WAS trying to style it.  Not only that, it was actually kind of cute.  Well, as cute as you can get on an old broad.    She stood next to me and said, *Do you like it?*  I told her I did and then she took my chin, moved my head back and forth while she had this very serious look on her face and said, *I think you need a haircut or something, Grandma*.  My reply was, *Oh, really?*  She then said to me, *Oh, yes, and I can do it for you....* while she headed straight for my drawer with the scissors in it.  I grabbed the handle of the drawer and stopped her.  I told her I go to a real beauty salon to get my hair cut.  She tried to insist that she could cut it for me and I told her I knew she could but...no!  not this time.  She said, *Are you sure?*  I told her yes, I was sure.  She then told me she needed to come with me when I got my hair cut so she could see it.  I laughed and told her I didn't think it would be any time soon and we would see when the time came.  That seemed to satisfy her and she finally put the brushes away.

The Beast hasn't been able to get comfortable but he's actually not complaining as much today.  I think part of that may be because he knows there is only one more left....for now, anyway.  As much as he would like to say the hell with it, he knows this can make a difference in his length of life.  I thought about how *I* might feel, being put into the same situation and realized you have to walk in a person's shoes to really understand.  I'm not sure how I would react after a while.  I'm sure it gets *old*.

We lost our internet for a couple hours this evening so that's why this post is so late.  On days I have Chewlee, I always post after she leaves.  Her mother picked her up early because they were so dead at the restaurant and they had too many girls on the floor.  She volunteered to leave, came to pick up Chewlee after she ran home to change clothes and they were going over to Tara's house for a while.  That got Chewlee going.  She was ready and eager to leave.  She loves to go visiting *family* as she calls all the relatives.

Love you all.  Hope you have a great Friday and an even better weekend.
