  • NOW WINTER STORM WARNING???

    TALES FROM THE BRAT FARM

It got all the way up to 57 degrees here today and I was kind of enjoying it.  Seemed almost spring-like.  I've been watching what must be brain injured birds showing up.  Cute little things of blue, black and white.  Small, almost wren-like birds that have a fluffy look to them.  So I was a bit surprised when my weatherbug started chirping.  It only does that when it's some kind of storm warning.

I clicked on it and checked it out.  Sure enough, we are due for some nasty weather, according to the bug.  Rain and snow.  Cold temperatures.  Possible flooding in some areas (due to mountain runoff, I'm sure).  Figures.

If it really gets nasty, I will lose my internet (satellite, remember?) so I am doing this up early to get it posted for later tonight.

I was really hoping this sinus cold would start clearing up but, alas, it's not to be.....yet!  I've gone through a box and a half of Kleenex so far (and I am not counting the paper towels I have been forced to substitute due to proximity when I MUST blow my nose).  Chewlee even handed me a napkin when we were sitting at the table on Saturday and told me to *blow*.  Guess I sounded like I needed it.

I get a headache when my sinuses won't drain so I won't complain about the constant need for keeping Kleenex close at hand.  I even keep a box next to the bed because I sometimes wake up in the dead of night and need it.  I woke the dog up the other night because it was so very quiet in the house.  He jumped up and made a small bark that set me laughing because I knew he had no idea what the hell was going on or why he woke up.

I finally finished folding all the clothes and put them away.  I didn't want to see the Beast trotting around in vivid red or blue briefs (which are in his *emergency* stack when I'm behind on getting things put in their proper place).  I sometimes have stacks of things I've folded in nice neat piles in my clothes basket.  Good place for them, don't you think?  We all get lazy at times and I admit I am no exception.  I sometimes just feel pissed off that a man can retire but a woman never really does.  Not unless you hire a maid, a cook and a housekeeper.  Yeah, sure.

Some of the women I play games online with tell me that their husbands retired to the couch and that's pretty much all they do.  I suppose I should be grateful for the Beast's interests that keep him busy (like all the darn fruit trees).  You know, however, that having them actually made work for me, right?  Yes, he started buying canning jars for canning and YOU KNOW WHO IS SUPPOSED TO DO ALL THAT, RIGHT?  I can't laugh at that part, tyvm.  It's truly a lot of work.  I was almost ...and I mean ALMOST ... grateful that we had too wet a year for a good crop of fruit last year.  I wasn't up to all the canning it would require from the looks of the fruit we started out with.  It was a crying shame that the majority of it rotted on the trees before they even ripened.  *Sigh*

I'm going to cut this short here since I can see the bad weather rolling in now, just about the time weatherbug indicated.    Better than the weatherman!    I'm going to check out and see what dvd movies I want to watch tonight.  The Mummy series is high on the list today but we shall see.  I'm beginning to love having some of these series because it can fill a lot of time and it's neat to watch it all unfold without having a year's wait for the second or third one.  I love watching the Harry Potter series now that I have all six together.  Now it's just waiting for the final one to come out later this year.

Love you all.  Have a great day.  Smile a lot.  Oh, and here's something for you to consider today:  Of all the things you wear, your expression is the most important.

  • X-MEN, CLEAN LINENS AND WASHED CLOTHES

    TALES FROM THE BRAT FARM

TV pretty much sucked today so I decided that I was going to watch DVD's,  instead.  I hadn't watched all the X-men ones in a while so X-Men it was.  Of course, you KNOW it's mostly because I just LOVE Wolverine.  Hubba-hubba!  I had to buy the DVD about Wolverine's origins as soon as it came out.  I wanted to see how they handled it all.  I still like to watch it and, as with most movies filled with action, I'm still finding things that I didn't notice before.

I kept pausing the movies because they are ones I don't like to miss anything.  I got up and would do some of my regular chores I assign myself for Sunday (like changing the sheets on my bed).  I also cleaned my down comforter because I am going to put it away now before the damn dog gets so much hair all over it, it won't come off!  You CAN wash a down comforter but just not often.  Once a year or so suffices if you don't have a damn dog shedding hair all over it or slobbing over a chew bone on it because YOUR Beast isn't watching him.  I'll pack it away with a fabric softener sheet so it doesn't get that musty smell some things do.  Of course, I'll still hang it out to freshen it once it's time to break it out again.  Not that spring is here or anything.  Far from it but we should be warm enough with the electric blanket packed between the nice fleece blanket and the bedspread/comforter.  That's for when the temperature drops down into the 20's ... like tonight.

I stripped the bed, ran back in and started up the movie, waited until a sufficiently calm part started and stopped it again.  I then flipped the mattress over (it's easy with good straps on the bed), put the bottom sheet on it and the top sheet, then ran back in and started the movie up again.  The Beast thought I was nuts but it doesn't make my back crazy and I get things done, slowly but surely.  I even figured out an easy dinner for us since the Beast said he wasn't really HUNGRY-hungry.  So I made us bacon and egg sandwiches.  Mine on toast; the Beast's on regular bread.

I even got a load of the Beast's underthings washed and dried.  I just haven't finished folding it all and putting it away.  Like I said, I am taking my time and enjoying the day.  The Beast must have enjoyed himself.  He spent more money.  He bought a scope for the one rifle that didn't have it.  He also had to buy some special *rings* for it since the rifle isn't really set up for one.  That never stops the Beast.  I guess he needs as much help as possible for all the crap he thinks he's going to kill with them.    I told him that he's nuts if he thinks I am cooking squirrels, possum or other *foreign* cuisine that I didn't grow up on.  I am totally clueless about that stuff.  I'm not even real fond of the taste of rabbit unless it's highly seasoned.  Not that I grew up on it but the Beast's father did and it gave me a chance to try it a time or two.

I suppose, though, that if the economy did go to hell, there might not be a whole lot of choice if you crave meat.  Personally, I think beans is a nice protein substitute with perhaps just a bit of meat for flavoring.

I think I might have just about talked the Beast into checking to see what the owner of the property left around here might want for that one lot on the other side of ours.  I told him that we just might end up having to put up some shelters for a few people in OUR families if things go to hell.  He looked at me like it hadn't occurred to him and said, *You might be right.*  If nothing else, it'll give him more places for his damn trees.

I played on Pogo for a bit also.  I was helping Bratfink with KP's badge for this week's challenge on Yahtzee.  What a pain in the butt that one has been since the only thing that counts in a Yahtzee with 6's.  Yeah, ever tried that?  I mean in real life?  Tougher still when it's a computer *throwing* the dice.  Sheesh.  I was glad when Bratfink got up from her nap and took over.  I had gotten half the required number and was getting a bit brain-dead.

I also did my much-needed worshiping at the altar of Lady Clairol.  I would have thought I would have more gray but the majority of those suckers are still a darn dishwater blonde.  If only it had stayed a brighter blonde and I wouldn't have to do this ... well, as often anyway.

Time to get this sucker up and ready for everyone to read that's interested.  At least you know just how exciting my life was (pretty much like a lot of other people's only the setting is different).  Love you all and have a great day.  Don't forget to smile at everyone.  Smile at yourself in the mirror, too.  You would be amazed at how it can put a lilt in your voice and lift your spirits.
