TALES FROM THE BRAT FARM
We met up with the kids and the grandparents at the Top of the River restaurant at 5pm. That's a little earlier than the Beast and I like to eat but Johnnycakes grandparents picked the time so I won't complain. We did bring home doggy bags....LOL.
Chewlee was absolutely ecstatic because she had so many people that were *hers* there. TWO grandma's and TWO papa's and a mommy and a daddy. She had to tell everyone who we all were. It was adorable. She also kept counting us. She can now count correctly up to 15 but she knew there were 7 of us. She had to sit by me and she demanded MY attention so I was only catching bits and pieces of the conversation going on around me.
The grandparents are very nice people with a good sense of humor. Chewlee is happy they are *hers* and they obviously love her back. We found out all about the trip the kids took to Chattanooga and that Chewlee was the best possible kid during it all. She loved the aquarium and she loved eating at Red Lobster. Johnnycakes had another first there because he had never eaten lobster before. The Princess said he started to dip it in tartar sauce or cocktail sauce, I forget which, but she stopped him. It is now on Johnnycakes list of favorite foods. He says it's definitely something he's going to have a lot more of in the future. Another one corrupted!
The Princess said she had forgotten how much she missed Red Lobster but she says she will definitely be eating there whenever she goes to Chattanooga...or any of the other bigger cities here in Alabama. It also looks like we will be taking a trip up to that neck of the woods in a couple weeks (weather permitting) to see Stone Mountain and the monument carved into the side of it and then on to Chattanooga so WE can visit the aquarium. The Princess said they only spent about 3 hours there due to Chewlee getting a bit tired (and I think they were, too....LOL)
Dinner was okay but nothing to write home about. The Princess ordered Shrimp Scampi and it's obvious they have no clue. There was no butter, no garlic that was visible or even to taste. The *sauce* on it was a reddish one and tasted more like lemon juice with cajun seasoning in it. I had shrimp on the skewer that was supposed to be grilled. It said nothing about cajun seasoning but that's what was on it. Was just so-so. I told the Princess that I will buy some shrimp and make us some REAL shrimp scampi with lots of butter and fresh chopped garlic and some linguine on the side. Yum!
The Beast had catfish fillets and I guess he was happy with that. Their hush puppies were decent and the cole slaw was good. Chewlee ate salad, some apple sauce and just a little bit of her chicken fingers. She did, however, eat MY hush puppies (and took what was left for her to take home) and she ate one of my shrimp. She took a small bite of a catfish fillet and pronounced it *not good* with much head and hand shaking. She had to make sure everyone at the table noticed what she had to say about it. She had ordered milk to drink and got all that finished by the time we left. The Princess took home a couple containers of food and I think the baby will be getting her chicken fingers for dinner tomorrow.
When we got outside and were saying goodbye, Chewlee grabbed my hand and started tugging me towards our car saying she was going home to *grandma's house so we can go in grandma's room*. I told her no, not tonight because she had school tomorrow. Since she loves her teacher, she finally accepted that she was going home with mommy and daddy. She was so cute as she ran up to us all to give us a goodbye hug and kiss. The Beast had walked over to the car and gotten in so she tugged mommy over to the car so she could kiss him goodbye, too. Then she ran to daddy to pick her up and did her little starlet wave. As you can probably tell, I just love that kid.
I got a lot of kidding at the table about spoiling her and just told them it was *my job*. The Beast laughed and said it was *pay back*. At least I don't fill her up with sugar and send her home bouncing off the walls.

I found out today that the Beast is going to his brother's house in a day or two. He really wants to show off the guns he bought and take his brother somewhere they can shoot them. He asked me if I wanted to go up there for a couple days but I reminded him that I start picking Chewlee up this week. He'll take Baron along and be happy.
I'm going to have to make a run to Walmart tomorrow to get some meat and veggies in the house. I will have the truck here but I hate to do grocery shopping in it. It's a real pain to have to put it all on the passenger side because you don't want it in the bed of the truck. It just slides all over the darn place.
The Beast needs to get the trees sprayed before he goes mainly because of the mild weather we will be having this week. He doesn't dare go away and have the trees start budding before applying the fungicide and copper spray on the peach trees.
Next week I'm going to have to get my nephews over here to help put down the lime on the property. Not the kind that eats away at tissue but the type that you use to enrich the ground. I didn't know the difference before moving here. The things you learn....even as you grow old.

I know a lot of people are watching the Acadamy awards tonight but I really have no interest in it. I know the movies I like and that's all that matters to me. I don't even care what the women are wearing (although I will check it all out tomorrow just to see who looks awful and who looked beautiful). But that's a woman thing.
The Beast said something tonight on the way home from the restaurant that I found kind of eye-opening. He told me he never expected to enjoy living in this area as much as he does. I told him that it was a surprise to me because he has always given me the impression that he liked it. I told him that I sometimes wish we were closer to some things but, overall, I love this area. I like not feeling like we are closed in. I love the fact that the homes aren't right on top of each other. I love the people who look you in the eye and say things like, *Good morning (or afternoon)* *Nice day, isn't it?*, *How are you doing today?*....perfect strangers who act like they are neighbors. To me, that is the best thing about living here.
I actually haven't (yet) met anyone who is unfriendly, in a bad mood or rude. I'm sure there must be some around but so far, so good. The cashiers and greeters at Walmart recognize me (and vice versa) and always ask how I'm doing. Several have told me how well I am looking these days and how worried they were about me when I was so thin. Like I said...strangers that act like neighbors. It's not that small a community (over 25, 000 permanent residents and a lot of migrant workers during the spring and summer months). That doesn't include all the vacationers that visit Lake Guntersville and the state park. Heck, we even have rental houseboats on the lake, which I think is really cool.
I'm looking forward to having a few days without the Beast or Baron. It will be heaven for me. I can do my cleaning up at my own pace and not have to worry about anyone messing things up before I am even finished.
Well, I will get this posted now for your reading pleasure later. Love you all and have a wonderful day. We will be enjoying some good weather for the next few days in pretty much the majority of the southeastern U.S.
