  • The Beast Returns!

    TALES FROM THE BRAT FARM

I ended up pulling an all-nighter last night.  I have no idea why I was so full of piss and vinegar but I knew if I went to bed, all I would do would be lay there in the dark, eyes closed and NOT sleep.  Been there, done that.  But boy did I accomplish a whole lot!

I got the floors all nicely shined up.  If the Beast doesn't notice it, he's blind.  The dog sure will....tee, hee, hee!  I can hardly wait for him to hit that floor.  I cleared everything up, put all my cleaning stuff away and got my rug cleaned in my computer room.  Everything looks great and I feel so much better for having gotten it done.  I wouldn't have half this done if the Beast hadn't gone away for the few days he has been away.  I'm really grateful for the time (and the energy).  I don't always have those things at the same time.

As you can probably tell, I am starting this before the Beast gets home.  I expect him within the hour now.  I just finished getting the chicken stuffed and the extra put in a pan.  I may just freeze that for another day but I haven't made up my mind yet.  If I do, I won't bake it first.  That just makes for lousy stuffing.  Defrosting just won't cut it.  It dries up too much no matter how well you wrap it.

Knowing the Beast, he's going to be hungry when he gets home but he'd better settle for soup or something light because I'll be damned if I am going to make him something that requires a lot of effort.  I'm fading a bit but loading up on coffee because I have to pick up Chewlee from school.  Her mother is coming to get her after work so she can get her fed (if she hasn't eaten well here), bathed and ready for bed.  She has to bring me clothes for her to wear to school tomorrow anyway.  That way, when she brings Chewlee back to me around 8:30pm, she will be ready for bed (I hope!).

The Beast got home around 3pm.  He had made the stop at Publix to pick up his favorite bread assortment fresh from their bakery along with the rye bread I requested so I will have it here for my corned beef on St. Patrick's Day.

He looked pale, which is normal for him after driving for 8 hours straight.  He went through two bad traffic areas and managed to hit them during rush hours this morning and again at noon.   He actually noticed how nice and clean the house looked and complimented me on it.   No one was more surprised than I was.  He had to tell me all about his time up at his brother's house (condensed, of course) before he went to take a nap.  I had popped the chicken in to roast after he got here so we could eat after I picked Chewlee up from school.

Chewlee was excited to see me when I got there and had to introduce me to the three teachers that were there in the Fellowship Hall where all the later pickup kids were playing together.  She spotted some cookies the Beast had brought home that his brother's wife had made so she asked for one and then pronounced them *good*.  They really were.  They were homemade chcolate chip with macadamia nuts.  She was go glad to see Papa was home and had to go over and give him a hug when we got to the house.  She then headed right for *our* room and shut the door to keep the dog out of the room.  The baby noticed the clean rug and pronounced it *pretty*.

We were eating when the Princess showed up so I made her a plate and she ate with us.  She then had to cajole Chewlee to get her out the door by telling her that she would come back to Gramma's after she got her jammies on later.  She should be back here shortly and will be ready to sleep, hopefully.  Her teacher said she hadn't taken a nap today and that usually means she is tired early.  Most nights, she has been in bed by 8pm.  I don't think she will come here and want to go to bed right away but I doubt she will stay up for long.  Good thing, too, because *I* am fading fast and will be heading for bed early myself.  It's been a long, long day for me.

All in all, it's kind of an anticlimatic day.  The Beast and Baron are back and we should be back into our normal routine in a day or two.  I'm just going to close this with a simple *love you* and I hope you have a fantastic day with great weather and lots of sunshine.

PS:  Happy Birthday, Tara.  29 (again) right???
