  • Chewlee Reads Her Own Bedtime Story…..

    TALES FROM THE BRAT FARM

DAY TWO:  Chewlee gets a second smiley face.  She really was cute this morning.  She was bright-eyed and bushy tailed and full of fun after I woke her and got her dressed for school.  She was so happy that I had picked out *soft* pants for her.  She told me she really didn’t like blue jeans because they were too stiff.  She ate and then we moved into the living room where I had the porch light on to let the bus driver know we were up.  She watched TV for a while and then she shut off the TV to come stand at the door with me.  She shushed me and put her ear to the window on the outside door.  When I asked her what she was doing, she said she was listening for the bus.  She did that in a very quiet whisper.  I laughed and told her that we could just step outside and take a look to see if it was ready to turn down our street.  So she pushed the door open and said, *Let’s wait outside* and she started to put on her back pack.  Just then, guess what stopped at the end of our driveway?  You got it!  The bus.  Chewlee gave my leg a quick hug and then ran down the stairs and over to the bus.  I waved as the driver closed the door and turned off the porch light.  Somehow, I knew she would have a good day.

When she got home after school, she had her usual after school snack and then came over to my computer to play her games on the NickJr site.  She stopped long enough to eat then back to her games until bath time.  When that was over and she had her jammies on, we played one game of Clue (hidden objects game) on Pogo and then it was bedtime.

Chewlee always has to have a story read to her but tonight we did something different.  We shared reading.  I only read the words she didn’t know.  Know what?  She knew a hell of a lot more words than I think anyone knows about.  I was amazed and tickled pink.  I gave her a big hug and we did a high 5 over that when we finished the story.  When I tucked her in, she told me she wanted to get up to watch the Orangutan Island program.  BUT….she snuck out of bed and into the living room with her blankey and the stuffed robin that was given to her a few days ago.  I had to paddle her little bottom because she went and hid in the bathroom when the Beast realized she was there and came to tell me.  I told her that if she didn’t go to sleep, I would close the door to that bedroom and there would be NO Orangutan Island in the morning.  She said to me, *But I was lonely…*  Yeah, like her mother would put up with that at home.  I told her that she knew I would be coming in to sleep with her later on and, with the door opened, she knew we were here so lonely didn’t cut it.

She cried, of course, but it was because she didn’t have her blankey and robin.  When she went to hide, she forgot to grab them off the love seat.  The incredible part is that she fell fast asleep in less than 10 minutes after being put back to bed and retucked in for the night.

We heard from Sheepie today.  She wants the Beast (actually Teach’s mom does) to take some pictures of the grandbaby for Teach’s mother.  The problem was his mind is in a totally different area right now and he’s worried about having a good background.  Since it’s winter here, the outdoors is OUT.  But he told her to give him a day or two to think about it (he has to psych himself up for working with his camera again).  I know he misses it because I saw him working on some pictures last week with his Photo Shop just to keep his hand in.

It was nice hearing her voice.  I heard she’s not working right now.  I just wish she could drive and we might get to see her sometime.  But I think they are sharing one vehicle at Teach’s so that has to be tough.

Our weather is supposed to be deteriorating over the next couple of days and there’s the possibility of tornadoes, too.  Sucks.  I sure hope you all have better weather than ours is going to be.  Whatever Mother Nature throws at you, be safe.  Stay warm. Drive carefully.  The life you save may be your own!
