It’s My Birthday And I’ll Cry If I Want To….
TALES FROM THE BRAT FARM
I’m kidding. Just being a bit nostalgic but that’s what (ahem!) old people do especially when another birthday rolls around. The Princess dropped off Chewlee this morning but hung around for a bit to show the Beast how to make a smoothie (she existed on them while she was preggers) AND to wish me a Happy Birthday. She really didn’t have to add…*you old person!* but that’s the Princess.
I knew SOMEONE was going to say it. She, at least, said it with a smile and that little vocal twist that says *I’m kidding you, you know.*
Bratfink was, of course, the first to wish me a Happy Birthday on her blog. The Beast, who remembered I had a birthday coming up last week, forgot that it was TODAY. If the Princess hadn’t said it, he could have gone the whole day and never realized it was today. Then, a few days down the line, he would remember and do the apology thing. For quite a few years, I spent my birthday with my family in the Chicago area. I had a lot more fun with THEM than with the Beast, trust me. But the family has kind of drifted away from the reunions because we never could find just the right place to hold it that would keep the kids from complaining once the games that were held for them (INCLUDING prizes). The adults did just fine. Give us food and drinks (and that just might include alcohol in one form or another) and we could sit around and just talk and joke and generally catch up on things. But, the kids grew up and started having their own lives and didn’t understand the real importance of keeping your whole family (aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers and sisters) close. Somewhere down the line as the kids start having kids of their own, they will restart the annual family reunion and will miss all us *old people* at our table. It will be a shock for them, as it was to US, that THEY are now the *old people*.
I miss my get-togethers with the family while I am visiting. I wasn’t able to go up two years in a row because of the Beast and his bladder cancer surgeries. I intend to go up sometime within the next few weeks. Until the Beast feels better, I can’t even set a definite date. But, I WILL go up and meet with my girlfriends from high school, too. I deserve it and I WILL have it.
Time to go see about keeping Chewlee entertained. The Beast got her an electronic reader similar to Nook or Kindle but much cheaper. He’s got a couple kid’s *Learning to Read* books downloaded on it. Chewlee isn’t fascinated with it like she is mine because hers doesn’t read to her like mine does. You can make that choice on my Nook if you want. I didn’t check to see if she brought her Leap Pad with her but I hope she did. It really keeps her interested and it’s all a learning experience.
She was cute today. When she realized it was my birthday, she made me a birthday *card* complete with cake and candles on it. And lots and lots of hearts. Even hearts inside of hearts. Then she gave it to me with a kiss and wished me a happy, the happiest birthday EVER! So sweet.
Love you all. Stay cool in this hot weather. What happened to the cooler weather we were promised anyway? Oh well. C’est la vie!

Happy Belated Birthday!
Thank you, Fiona. Just wish the fire department didn’t come out when we lit the candles. LOL!
