Big Surprise….Company Coming!
TALES FROM THE BRAT FARMThe Beast was a bit upset with himself today as he looked over the garden and realized that much of what failed to germinate or mature was HIS fault. I’m speaking, of course, of the effects from using softened water to water the garden. It’s especially damning because the rain barrel is so close to the garden and that was one of the primary reasons for buying it and setting it up. He hasn’t used the water in it even once, I believe. And that is unforgivable.
The Beast’s cousin, Troublina, called him. It usually means she wants to pick his brain about something or she needs him to do some kind of project for AM, his aunt. Since we live so close to them (it’s just about 5 hours or less to their house), she doesn’t feel the slightest reluctance to try to get him to volunteer. Which, if you read in-between the lines, means that she will protest that his coming up there was NOT what she meant at all but, oh! how sweet of him to volunteer! Both she AND her mother are actually Masters In The Art Of Manipulation. You don’t mind it when AM does it because she really is sincere in not expecting you to do something that she feels SHE can do (even at her age) but not Troublina. She doesn’t want to do anything she can get someone else to do.
I suppose I shouldn’t blame her for that. Seems kind of human to me except there’s something about the syrupy/insincere/fakey way she tries to insist *Oh, but I didn’t mean that!* thing she does that grates on my nerves.
They’ve come and gone already. The visit wasn’t as long as the drive from Chattanooga to here but it’s going to be a 5 hour or less drive for them to their home in NC and I know AM hates driving in those mountains in the dark. For the most part, Troublina behaved herself. But, when they left, I was glad to get back to my feeling miserable because……..
TODAY IS OUR 47TH ANNIVERSARY…..and we can’t go out to eat even. *Wah! Wah! Wah!* Oh well, AM and Troublina started making plans for getting a hall for our 50th anniversary. The idea excites AM, I know because she can see getting food and stuff organized for it and the invites going out so people can plan to come and spend the time with us. Me? Hell, I just want to live that long and be fairly healthy.
Well, I am going to get this posted and wish you all a great week. I’ll touch bases with you tomorrow, as usual, although it’s a Chewlee day so expect a late post. Love you all and please, please….take care during this awful hot weather.
