Chewlee Is Traveling With Us To The Birthday Party….
TALES FROM THE BRAT FARMAfter talking to the Princess this morning (who is still sick, btw), it looks like the Beast and I will be traveling with both the dog and Chewlee to AM’s birthday party in NC. I’ve had a lot of people ask if Hurricane Earl is going to interfere and I am glad for your concern but she is located in the SE corner of the state, high up in the mountains. It’s too far from the coast to be affected.
So I have been mulling over the problems of traveling with a child once again in my life. I’m planning on what I need to have readily available in the car with us. You know, stuff like juice, fruit and other snacks. Then I have to have spare pullups since I doubt she will be able to hold *it* for the time it would take us to find a bathroom. Also wipes for both her face, hands and bottom. She will also require her portable DVD player to keep her occupied, as well as her special case that holds her DVD’s. We need her *ti-ti* (blanket) and I have to buy a special sippy cup for her juice because she’s will be fighting the dog for space and I won’t have to worry about spills.
I told the Princess to pack up some clothes for her to wear for a couple days. How she is going to take sleeping with *Papa* and *Gramma* is going to be interesting. The Beast has so many cans of Baron’s dog food in the back seat that I had to laugh. I know what it is…..he forgot he bought it because he was doing so much running around that day. I have to empty THOSE out of the back area because it’s ridiculous. We are only going to be gone Saturday and most of Sunday. We might stay another night and leave early and get home on Monday but we have to wait and see about that. A lot will depend on how much we enjoy ourselves and if we can drag ourselves away early enough to make driving home feasible. Personally, I prefer staying a second night and making the drive home when we are refreshed. Okay, maybe not refreshed but at least after a decent nights sleep.
The one thing I do know is that I have always slept well when I visit up there. I don’t know if it’s the elevation, the fresh air of the mountains or whatever. I just know that it’s never taken me long to fall asleep and I always wake up feeling fairly good.
I have to get a card for his aunt. I’m ashamed to say I haven’t done that yet. I plan on doing that tomorrow (Friday to you reading this). We still haven’t a clue what you get for the woman that has everything. I mean, she had the complete collection of Rockwell plates and Hummel figures. She’s had to downsize a bit due to having gone from two households to one so you really can’t buy her anything. I’m not sure of her size or I would stop at one of the luxury women’s stores and buy her one of those wonderful, soft robes for her early morning coffee time. I know I love the one I bought for myself several years back. I loved it so much I went back and got myself one that was shorter for those times I don’t need the warmth for my legs. But, we shall see.
Chewlee was hungry (of course) when I picked her up. Today she wanted spaghetti-o’s and she was disappointed that it didn’t have hot dog in it. So….I got a hot dog out of the fridge and she watched me cut it up into slices and add it. She absolutely insisted that I couldn’t heat it up. That is, until she had a couple tastes. I then went and heated it up for her and she was much happier. She ate every single slice of the hot dog and about half of the spaghetti-o’s. When she was done, she wanted a purple popsicle. I bought those real fruit ones and she’s decided she likes those best. She had barely started hers when the Princess showed up. The Princess grabbed one of the strawberry ones and Chewlee got a big kick out of that. She had to come and tell me all about it.
I told Chewlee she was coming with us to meet a lot of relatives…new aunts and cousins for her to meet. She got very excited over that and told me that I had to bring her DVD’s including Dora and the pirate adventure. I bought her that earlier this week and I guess she really likes it. The Princess and I talked for a bit about what I would need from her. I guess she will bring it over either tomorrow or Saturday when she drops off Chewlee.
Part of the reason the Princess isn’t going with us is the fact that she is sick. She is pushing herself at work because she has not more time coming right now. Plus, it seems like when she rests, it gets worse. Go figure! But, her car also needs an oil change and two new tires. She can’t afford to change that right now since she just paid rent and bills. She would really like to go because there are cousins she hasn’t seen in ages but she’s hoping there will be another time. She’s young yet. It’s us old folks that may miss out on that reunion.

Time to get this posted for you to read later. Love you all and I hope you have a wonderful 3-day weekend. It’s Labor Day but try NOT to labor.
