Bankhead National Forest Is Discovered By The Beast!
For whatever reason, the Beast got a bug up his butt and started checking around the area for places he might get an SI (significant image). He discovered Bankhead National Forest is just under 2 hours away from us and it has some spectacular sites.
I inspected the pictures of falls and caverns spread all over it and the shortest hiking trail to one of the SI’s is 2.5 miles. I guess that one will have to be the first one we tackle because we ARE old people whether we want to admit it or not. We found out that Johnnycakes final exam in his class tomorrow doesn’t start until 10:30am and the Princess’s should be over and done with before 10am. So I won’t be taking care of Chewlee. It’s also one of the Princess’s days off work so I get the WHOLE day off. I also have Wednesday off since the Princess didn’t have any classes on Wednesday and it is also one of her days off. Two whole days in a row. Thank you lord.
It means the Beast and I (and the dorg) will be leaving early tomorrow morning and heading to Bankhead to see what we can see. I’m taking my camera with me and will try to take some pictures of my own to post on here. Bear with me on that because I am a total novice and will be leaning on Bratfink to guide me through it. (Love you, Sis
).I always take some crocheting with me on any of our trips. It keeps me from grinding my teeth at the Beast’s driving and helps me make some progress on some of my projects. I am shamefully behind with babysitting Chewlee. She thinks my balls of yarn are to play with so I just don’t tempt her.
Chewlee got here today after 11 so we went right outside since I needed to plant some new cantaloupe plants and check to see if my cucumber plants were surviving. The tomatoes all seem to be doing good as well as the zucchini. I’m unsure about the crooked neck squash since I don’t know what mature plants look like. I need to google that. My jalapeno is doing well. It’s too soon to tell about the bush beans or the radishes since they are seeds and need 5 days or more to germinate. My parsley, the same thing. I put that in a hanging basket near the deck. I have no idea why I decided to grow some since they are mainly decoration but I just thought it would be fun. Part of the problem in this area with gardens is that the ground is mostly clay. It amazes me that anything CAN grow in it without throwing down and mixing a LOT of dirt. I took some of the Miracle Grow potting soil and used that when I replanted the cantaloupe. It should help. I did dig little trenches between the rows so that, when I water it, it can seep below the surface and encourage the roots to grow.
The Beast finished putting together the shelves he made the other day. I had to give him a hand when he put the back on it to make sure it stayed *squared* but that was it. He did some more sanding on it and it is now just waiting for staining. He wanted to give the glue time to dry well (it’s used along the edges). It looks nice and should do him well for what he wants. It will also help him clear up a lot of stuff off the top of his desk. God knows, it needs it. I swear, that man has more stuff on it than you could believe.
Chewlee was more than ready to go home tonight. She started crying and wanted to go *bye-bye with mommy*. I had to give her a *sucksicle* as Bratfink calls them. You know, those tubes that you freeze that are popsicles without a stick. I’ve always got them in my freezer. Not just for Chewlee, but the Princess and, yes, me too. She really loves them. She also loves ice. She begged for ice today while the Beast was sitting outside, drinking ice water and she heard it clinking around in his glass. He gave her some and she happily chewed on it. Then, of all things, Baron begged for some ice. It was so funny. He has NEVER done that before but he’s a bit jealous of any attention the Beast pays to her. So if she gets something, he wants it too. Just like two little kids. And, of course, he is still young for a doberman male. It takes them 2-3 years to mature. He’s not quite 2 yet.
Well, time for me to close and get my butt to bed now. The Beast will want to leave early so we will stop somewhere for breakfast (which I surely don’t mind) and he promised me dinner out on the way home. I think he’s got Outback in mind. At least, I am praying he does. I’m taking along some egg salad sandwiches for our *hike*. I will take some canned soda and, if we stop, some bottled water. I’ve done this with the Beast before and I know how he is when he wants to take SI’s. I refuse to go hungry….LOL
Love you all. Have a wonderful day. Life is short! Break the rules! Forgive quickly! Kiss slowly! Love truly. Laugh uncontrollably . And never regret anything that made you smile! ! !
